so i've been told i need to update (weaver, this is for you!)

basically, i feel like i have so much going on right now but at the same time not much at all--if that makes any sense.  Like all other students, I have tons and tons of papers to write, etc, start thinking about HONDURAS!! and things of that nature but at the same time I feel like there's not a whole lot to report.  Except for the fact that I LOVE getting mail.  I got a card in the mail today from a friend whom i have not seen in 6 months and it seriously made my day.  That was always the highlight at work this summer too--getting letters from friends and family.  I feel very very lucky to have the friends and family that I do--they mean the world to me.

mixed feelings

so the summer is ending and we're already in september and i can't believe that i only have less than a week in the mountains!  3.5 days of work left, that can't be too many more orders to take and tables to serve.  it's strange because i'm so excited to go back to school and well, live in a laundry room to be completely blunt, but i'm going to miss my friends here and being surrounded by mountains and bears and snow and waterfalls all the time.

at the same time, living in civilization, not using dial up (remember our airband video where we said dial up was from the 90's--well here it's still used) and ya, just seeing everyone i left four months ago.  strange how you want to leave and not leave at the same time.

completely different note: saw ben lee in concert on wednesday-- SO AMAZING!!!! one of the best concerts i've been too. prom/grad at the canyon last night. also much much fun. missing charis--she flew back yesterday. but mi madre comes on WEDNESDAY!!!!

Tis: A Memoir

tomato

i feel like i learned some very valuable lessons today.

1) never assume a dangerous climb up several hundred feet of loose rock is part of the trail.

2) never try to climb this several hundred feet of loose rock when you're hiking above the treeline, without water, by yourself.

3) going down the several hundred feet of loose rock on your butt is a dusty and painful adventure

4) even if it's cold and cloudy when you begin hiking, always wear sunscreen.  if you do not you will get a burn and your co-workers, even the ones who can't speak english, will call you tomato.

these lessons may or may not be more valuable than all the years of education i have had since if i had known them, especially 1 and 2 i would not have put my life in danger today.  unfortunately, 15 years of school has not taught me too much i suppose.

18.5

that's how many days left i have of work for the summer! yes, ladies and gents, i have 18.5 days left of stocking fridges, pouring beers, taking orders, killing bugs, burning my hands carrying out hot plates of food, and trying to understand what on earth these people who don't speak or understand english are trying to tell me.  it's a beautiful thing.

there are tons of grizzlies around the area lately.  kinda scared to go running since i don't want to be grizzly food.  it's berry season so they're all chowing down. it's kinda cool but kinda not seeing as they're about a few hundred feet from where i live and work.

very excited about friday.....my day off. Yza and I are going hiking, canoeing, and horseback riding and THEN finishing it up with some chocolate fondue. mmmm mmmmm mmmmm.

angela's ashes is an amazing book. i recommend it to everyone. personally, i think it should be a must read for all social work students.

i have never met so many immature people in my entire life than i have this summer.  and i don't mean immature as in goofing off and not being serious.  i mean immature in terms of being self-centered, arrogant, gossips, etc....

all i gotta say is i can't wait to be back with my school friends.  however, life is full of encounters with miserable people and in a month i will never have to see them again. not everyone here is like that though, most of the people i meet and work with are great and i will actually miss them quite a bit when i leave.

in other news, missing first week of school which is sad but happy because it means i will be spending it TRAVELING IN THE ROCKIES WITH MY MOM!!!!!!!!
